Premier League: Matchday 25 Review
Taking a look at the weekend’s results as United played out another disappointing result.
Man United 1 – 1 Southampton
It was another disappointing result for Manchester United fans as their team should have done better. Cristiano Ronaldo had a shot cleared off the line by Romain Perraud in the early minutes, and Jadon Sancho gave United the lead in the 21st minute, scoring from a Rashford cross. United hoped that they would be able to capitalise on their lead, but it was déjà vu for them again as Che Adams equalised for Southampton in the 48th minute. The match ended with a point for both teams, although United would certainly hope that they had took all 3.
Watford 0 – 2 Brighton
Brighton completed the league double over Watford with another dominant performance. Neal Maupay’s improvisation gave Brighton the lead in the 44th minute, volleying the ball into the top left hand corner of the net. Adam Webster sealed the win in the 83rd minute after scoring from two yards out. Watford have failed to keep a clean sheet again, and would need a big improvement on their form to get out of the relegation zone.
Brentford 0 – 0 Crystal Palace
Neither side could break the deadlock at the Brentford Community Stadium. Mbeumo and Jensen had the most chances for Brentford, whilst Palace had slightly more of the ball. That being said, both sides failed to be creative in the final third, resulting in the final score.
Everton 3–0 Leeds United
Everton recorded a rare win at home as they put 3 past Leeds. Albeit having less possession, they had a lot more shots and shots on target, compared to Leeds’ 7 shots and 0 on target. Goals from Seamus Coleman and Michael Keane gave Everton a comfortable lead in the first half, while a goal from Richarlison (via Anthony Gordon who was given the final credit) in the second half ensured the three points for Everton.
Norwich 0 – 4 Man City
Another dominant win for league leaders Man City as they faced Norwich City, who are in the relegation zone. Phil Foden scored in the 48th minute, and Raheem Sterling recorded a hat-trick, scoring in the 31st, 70th and 90th minutes. Man City remain 9 points clear of the table after the match.
Tottenham 0 – 2 Wolves
A disappointing result for Spurs as Wolves scored 2 past them. Raul Jiménez opened the scoring for Wolves in the 6th minute, and Leander Dendoncker doubled Wolves’ lead in the 18th minute, giving Spurs an even worse start. Neither side could score after that, and it remains as a victory for Wolves.
Newcastle 1–0 Aston Villa
Another win for Newcastle as they look to stay in the Premier League next season. Kieran Trippier scored in his second consecutive match with another free kick. His goal separated the two sides in the end, giving Newcastle another important 3 points.
Liverpool 1–0 Burnley
Liverpool took the 3 points in a tight game at Turf Moor. Salah made his long-awaited return to the starting line-up, however he is yet to record a goal. Fabinho’s goal in the 40th minute gave Liverpool the lead, which proved to be enough for the three points in the end.
Leicester 2–2 West Ham
Leicester and West Ham played out an exciting draw at the King Power Stadium. Jarrod Bowen gave West Ham the lead after 10 minutes, scoring his 5th goal in 5 games. Aaron Cresswell conceded a handball in the penalty box, and the equalising penalty was scored by Youri Tielemans just before half time. 12 minutes into the second half, Ricardo Pereira headed in a goal to give Leicester the lead for the first time. However, in the 1st minute of stoppage time, Craig Dawson scored for West Ham after a corner, giving West Ham a very late equaliser. West Ham steals a point from Leicester, and remain 4th in the league table.
